Daylight Savings Petition.
Also known as summertime in some countries daylight savings time is that time in spring and summer that the clock is moved forward by an hour. This is done while making sure that it will coincide with more with the natural daylight hours. The standard time is the rest of the time when the clocks are changed to fall back to the normal hours.
Only a few parts of the world participate to this practice of switching clocks that have been termed as backward, therefore, it is not a uniform global concept. A petition has been brought forward by organizations and also groups of individuals who are against this practice due to the many health complications linked to it such as heart attacks.
Since winter evenings tend to be shorter to those practicing the daylight savings time this has lead to cases of depression being reported. There are some health consequences that come with this concept like the seasonal affective disorder and it manifests itself if people do not get enough sunlight exposure.
The concept of daylight saving time has been linked to causing heart attacks due to the changes in the sleep pattern and the circadian rhythms. Sleep deprivation symptoms include decreased alertness, impaired cognitive function, memory loss just to mention a few. It can take longer periods to achieve a balance in the circadian rhythms that are responsible for hormonal changes, hunger, and sleep.
The health risks of practicing daylight savings time are very many. Experts reveal those cluster headaches reported during the time of clock change are several and the results can be detrimental to the health of any individual. The percentage of stroke incidences has been reported to rise during the daylight saving time period and this is shown by the in-depth research that has been done. Heart attacks, suicide rates, and miscarriages usually skyrocket during this period, therefore, this period has very detrimental health problems to many people and should be brought to an end.
The daylight savings time is a very expensive practice and this impacts negatively to the economy since the productivity of people after the spring transition is very low. It will be extra costs in having to build daylight saving time into the computer systems and having them maintained will also incur an extra costs reason why the practice should come to an end. Investing the money to have better infrastructure in place would be a better idea that will be beneficial to people instead of investing in a practice that is traditional in this technological era.
The practice was invented decades ago as a way of saving energy by having more daylight but it’s not applicable in this era.
